Space 1889: Red Sands

Everything Jules Verne could have written.
Everything H.G. Wells should have written.
Everything A. Conan Doyle thought of but never published.

Since Thomas Edison first explored the worlds with the help of his marvelous ether propeller, the British Empire has grown to include the red plains and stately canals of Mars, the streaming dinosaur-infested swamps of Venus, and even a remote outpost in the twilight zone of Mercury. In 1889, the sun truly never sets on the British Empire!

Whether you’re noble or common, learned or brutish, Human or otherwise, Section X of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, known publicly as the Explorer’s Society, offers a place for you to help turn the tide against the unknown threats. Take to the stars, adventure, and duty. Brave the dangerous space of a seemingly-genteel era.

Heroes all start off as new recruits of Section X, who cooperate in broadening the bounds of scientific knowledge, unraveling mysteries, promoting peace, and opposing evil cults. The main antagonist of the campaign is the Brotherhood of Luxor.

  • Alexander Hawke – Two-fisted wilderness man, with manners and attitude to match.
  • Ana Craev – Intrepid reporter, with a vow to uncover the truth, but is she too afraid to face it.
  • Beth Brunell – Disowned noblewoman, inventor and pilot, who apparently doesn’t get on well with Belgians (and has a pet monkey).
  • Goldie 5000 – A curiosity even among Section X – a sentient android whose social circuits were reprogrammed by the Brotherhood of Luxor, but has now broken free.
  • Kinya Higsbothan – Petite woman, who is known to be a skilled mechanic; seems obsessed with machines.
  • Professor Brown – A genius who has had a long career in many fields, but only recently gained notoriety with the invention of his Mind Reading device; perhaps the Brotherhood of Luxor tried to buy it off him.
  • Sir Malcolm Ravenscroft – Her Majesties finest cavalry officer, a young nobleman mostly famous for thinking he is the best, and not being shy telling others about it; served a tour on Mars, where he probably encountered the Brotherhood of Luxor.
